Assignment 5 – Training Slide Deck and Final Submission of PEP

Due July 7, 2021 11:59 PM

In the previous assignments, we learned the basics of what is an execution plan, the parameters governing a successful execution plan, the basics of progressive design build & a literature review of your assigned components. You also gathered examples of a process map on how your individual components will be executed & any cross functional collaboration required. You also collaborated and reviewed the submissions of your classmates and provided them with constructive feedback on how to improve.
As we approach the final submission for the execution plan, we will now begin to incorporate and expand all your individual elements into a document that can be transformed into the project execution plan (PEP) & a Training Slide Deck.

Submission Requirements –

A. Team Submission – Provide a PEP document consolidating all of the elements that your team members are working on. This is a team submission, only 1 submission per team is required on Canvas. A typical submission will be at least 5 pages in length per element (not including references).

B. Individual Submission – Provide Slide Presentation for each of your elements. A typical submission will be approximately 20 slides per element.

C. Peer Review – Provide Peer Review for 3 Elements on YellowDig.

Team Submission (Canvas)

A. Work within your team to create a PEP in Word. It is highly recommended to have at least 5 pages per element – Excluding References. You can exceed page the 5 pages but you may lose points if the submission is less than 5 pages for each element (excluding references).
1. This PEP document should serve as a template that your organization can use on any upcoming project and should provide guidelines and specific instructions on how to execute tasks associated with your respective PEP element.
2. Please be sure to include any references you have used in the development of the PEP for your element.
3. Include a title, Introduction, Index, List of figures & List of tables
4. We would recommend you use a shared document with a set formatting so it is not an effort at the end to combine all your Individual work into a uni-formatted document.
5. As a part of your previous assignments, you determined the sub-topics to include in each element. Perform a literature review on each sub-topic (No minimum requirement for amount of literature you gather) and start expanding on each sub-topic to build your PEP document. (For example, if you have cost management as one of your elements, you may have identified how to perform cost reviews as one of the sub-topics – this was part of Assignment #4.) You may deviate from the sub-topics you developed from Assignment #4 if you feel it adds (or detracts) from what the group is working towards.

6. Meet as a group and address any questions that come up on cross functional collaboration requirements you have identified in to minimize conflicts within your PEP between different sections.
7. The goal is to create a uniform document that serves as a guide for project execution across the organization. This ensures projects are executed within the set framework and in a uniform methodology.
Each team will have had sufficient time to co-ordinate and work within their groups to create a PEP. This document should be synchronous and follow MLA citation format. Very often you will be required to provide progress reports over your career and this assignment is critical to developing the skillsets needed to create a professional document that can help you outshine. As a part of the previous assignments you will have reviewed several PEPs and have reviewed some literature related to your sub topic to determine the framework for your PEP.

Submit this to Canvas as Assignment 5A – Due July 7.

PEP Slide Deck Individual Submission (YellowDig)

B. For the assigned project execution plan components, develop a 20-slide training deck for each element that you can use for training and onboarding resources on a progressive design build project.
1. Consolidate the responses you have received on your YellowDig Slide Deck post for each element and use that as a skeleton for building your slide deck.
2. Expand on each of the subtopics and perform a thorough literature review on each sub topics to gain expertise within your selected elements. This is something that is an overlap with Assignment 5A.
3. As a part of 5A, you will already have a detailed literature review on each sub topic and a synopsis of what needs to go within each section. Convert your content into a presentation format you can use to train and onboard resources for your project. The PEP word document is built to document the execution strategy within your project and has to have details regarding the same, the slide deck is being used to train and onboard resources that can reference the PEP document, keep that in mind while building your presentation. Your slide deck can be very high level or brief, the PEP document needs to have some details.
4. Be sure to include any references you have used at the end of the slide deck (Not to be counted towards the 20-slide recommended minimum requirement)
5. You can exceed 20 slides if you want to, but you may lose points if you submit anything less than 20 slides.
6. Graphics and pictures explaining a concept are worth a thousand words in a presentation. I would recommend you to find and use good visualizations for the purpose of building a slide deck. If you use any references from the internet or other sources, be sure to include a proper reference citation and webpage for that image.

Submit this to YellowDig as Assignment 5B – Due July 7.

Peer Review Individual Submission (YellowDig)

C. Provide constructive feedback on at least (3) Slide Decks on YellowDig (You are free to choose any topic you want except the ones you are working on – we recommend NOT reviewing the three you have worked on).

Submit this to YellowDig as Assignment 5C – Due July 10.

Reminder/Helpful Hint –
As you develop your submissions for these Assignment #5 items, be conscious of the conclusion goals that were identified at the start of the project (below).

Key topics the Owner Organization is concerned about include:
a) GMP & Contingency use (includes Risk Management)
b) Design Submittals & Construction Submittals, their review and approval (including who does what, decision rights, and disagreement resolution hierarchy)
c) Change Management
d) Partnering & Team Building
e) Preconstruction Services

The conclusion of Project Execution Plan at a minimum should incorporate the following:
a) Progressive Design Build Best Practices Summary
b) Pros & Cons of Progressive Design Build & Design Bid Build Contract Delivery Method
c) Difference in execution strategy between Progressive Design Build & Design Bid Build
d) Owner, Engineer / Designer, Contractor/Builder & Owner’s Rep Roles in ensuring project success
e) Game Theory Analysis (Good, Bad, the Good in the Bad & The Bad in the Good)
f) Industry Best Practices that can be implemented to optimize project performance
g) Establishing KPIs & Performance Measurement
h) Process map for project lifecycle incorporating People, Process & Technology / Tools
i) Document Templates (Estimates, Bid Review, Schedules, Meeting minutes, Change Logs, Process Maps, Decision logs)
j) Prioritization to recognize the importance of each attribute defined in the considerations listed below across the project timeline

Key Takeaways –
You will understand the difference between having to deliver on a task when you work in a silo vs the complexity involved in having to collaborate to turn in your deliverable on a large construction project, you will understand the benefits of using a PEP vs the chaos that ensues when you don’t use one.
This is an ambitious effort that professionals with years of experience struggle to perform on, early on in your career understanding via a simulation will help you avoid making some common errors you will experience while developing this assignment.
Treat the YellowDig discussion board as your whiteboard, imagine it to be the tool to allow for leveraging the expertise of your peers to help you succeed at your tasks. When drafting your post you will realize it needs to consider the readers perspective and what you need from the reader in lieu of posting what you already know & educating the reader.

Process Outcome Templates Examples & Productivity Pointers –
Process Outcomes typically have Templates / Checklists / Models can be generic or specific to water and wastewater progressive design build projects. The min. requirement is for the submissions to be applicable to a construction project.
You can convert best practices into checklists, you can reference the pdfs / process maps / tables below and create your own or use the referenced documents to find additional literature:
