Theoretical probability is determining what will happen based on the number of possible outcomes. The simplest example of Theoretical probability is a single coin toss which has a 0.5 probability of Heads or Tails on any given toss. These outcomes are determined without actually tossing a real coin. Empirical probability is determining the possible outcome of a set of events based on information gathered from past experiences with the same situations. Having the information that I go to work on a normal bases 5 days a week, in any given week, the Empirical probability of me going to work is 0.71.

1.Theoretical probability is given from the number of ways a certain event can happen, divided by a total number of potential outcomes. For example, if I were to flip a penny 50 times, I would expect that both heads and tails each came up 25 times. Empirical probability is given from the number of times that certain event happened divided by total numbers of incidents that were observed. For example, I could toss a penny 50 times to see how many times I get heads.
