The subsequent discussion presents an analysis of the various threats and vulnerabilities that the U.S currently faces. International Terrorist Attacks One of the vulnerabilities that the U.S is exposed to is its little knowledge about various international terrorist groups making it disadvantaged. Another vulnerability is the inadequate internet surveillance by the U.S government which compromises internet security in the U.S. Further the U.S thus faces threats such as bombing shootings nuclear and biological attacks rocket attacks and cyber-attacks (Homeland Security 2020). These are the tactics that international terrorists use. Compared to the other topics threats from international terrorist attacks are very significant since the casualty levels are massive thus should be given high priority. (Homeland Security 2020). However the most notable impact of international terrorist attacks would be human causalities (Homeland Security 2020). To alleviate risks associated with an international terrorist attack the Department of Homeland security should conduct surveillance internationally since it will help it gain more information about international terrorist plans (Homeland Security 2020). Results of the latter move would be immediate since surveillance would start immediately. Some of the anticipated challenges with this move would include uncooperative leaders from other countries and limited financial resources since other leaders may fail to support the move by the U.S and the surveillance systems are expensive. Domestic Terrorist Attacks Some of the vulnerabilities that the country is exposed to include limited surveillance of the public making it hard to identify attackers in advance and the legalization of guns since citizens may misuse them. On the other hand some of the threats associated with domestic terrorist attacks include shootings robbery suicide bombing and kidnappings (Homeland Security 2020). These are the most common tactics used by domestic terrorists thus making them the most common threats. Compared to the other topics these threats are very significant since their casualty levels are high; therefore should assume a high priority (Homeland Security 2020). If the event occurred its impact would be human casualties. To alleviate the above risks and prevent this event cracking and charging suspects should be done as it would serve as a warning to others. Significant results will be seen in 3 years since it would take time to arrest and charge suspects for results to be evident. Possible challenges may include a lack of evidence to charge suspects and manipulation and collaboration of involved persons with domestic terrorists. Economic Collapse One of the vulnerabilities that the U.S has in relation to this is the high debt levels that the country currently holds which puts it under pressure. Dependence on importation is the other vulnerability of the country since cutting ties with such countries can bring the country to a standstill. Some of the serious threats that the U.S face include the high unemployment rate in the country considering that more people are still unemployed and pandemics such as COVID-19 since they may bring the country to a standstill. (Homeland Security 2020). Compared to other topics the above threats are averagely significant since being a superpower it is hard for the U.S economy to collapse and there would be no losses of lives as they occurred. Thus the threats are relatively low priority as they lead to no losses of lives just shifts in the economy and livelihoods. An impact of this event would be long-term impacts such as loss of economic productivity (Homeland Security 2020). To alleviate these risks and prevent an economic collapse appropriate fiscal and monetary policies should be implemented in the country to better economic performance. This would take about a year since some policies are complex and time-consuming to implement to see the results. However possible problems may include a shortage of funding and also changes in international market conditions. Failure of Critical Infrastructure Some of the risks that exist include outsourcing complexities and resource disparities since these would incapacitate critical infrastructure (Rehak & Hromada 2018). On the other hand some of the threats that the U.S faces include natural disasters such as earthquakes and technical failures since they would incapacitate these critical infrastructures. The above threats are very significant since their occurrence would impact almost the entire economy. Thus they should be given high priority since they affect society (Rehak & Hromada 2018). Social instability would be the impact of this event since its occurrence would disrupt the entire society. To alleviate these risks and prevent failure of critical infrastructure the U.S government should establish a network between these critical infrastructures since this would improve its resilience to threats and improve their combating. This may take about three years as the entire economy would be involved. Possible problems may include complexity in decision making and also limited financial sources to implement the solution as the move is capital intensive. Financial Stability and Growth of Other Nations Concerning the financial stability and growth of other nations some of the vulnerabilities that exist include dependence on other economies for imports and the reliance on other countries as export markets since the U.S cant depend on itself alone. On the other hand some of the threats that the U. S faces include economic competition and also loss of control (Shapiro 2019). Compared to other topics the above threats are less significant considering that they only affect the economy and not the lives of citizens which would be extreme. Thus they are a low priority since they do not affect the lives of the citizens directly. The impact of the above event would-be an increase in economic competition. To alleviate these risks and prevent such the latter event the U.S government should cease supporting other countries. This would take around 6 months as only a law would need to be passed. Potential problems may include political class differences and also lack of support from the international community since it is controversial. Other Nations Military Powers Lastly some of the risks associated with this event include war attacks from countries and political instability globally and in other countries. On the other hand some of the possible threats that the U.S faces include bombings nuclear and biological attacks and rocket attacks as these are the key military weapons used by countries (Talmadge 2016). Compared to the other topics the above threats are very significant and should be given a high priority since they may lead to massive loss of lives. The above events main impact would be deterioration in international relations as every country would want its military to be powerful (Talmadge 2016). To alleviate these risks and prevent such the latter event the U.S government should sign a memorandum of understanding with countries about their military powers which may take many years. Potential difficulties may include resistance from these countries and also lack of support from the international community. Overall it is important to focus on the most significant threats since this will help the Department of Homeland Security reduce the impacts of the various threats it faces and safeguard American lives more.
