Instructions and Grading Criteria
General Instruction:
Each student will design two language-based activities: one activity for infants or toddlers (up to 2 years) and one for preschoolers (3-4 years). Students will utilize and/or create materials for the activities. At the end of the semester, each student will write two detailed and descriptive lesson plans (at least 3 pages per age group for a total of at least 6 pages). Students will also be asked to present one of their activities using props, visuals, and other necessary materials to the class.
Specific Requirements:
A strong paper will be outlined this way:
I. Introduction to language development in infants/toddlers/preschoolers (.5 page)
II. Detailed Lesson Plan for infants/toddlers: (1 page) Infant/Toddler Activity I:
For infants or toddlers, your grade is based on the quality of the activity to promote language development with language modeling. In addition to writing a detailed lesson plan, you must also describe how the activity can promote language development through modeling, and use peered viewed research to back up the importance of this kind of activity.
III. Analysis and discussion of how the activity you created promotes language development through modeling (citing research) (1.5 pages)
IV. Detailed Lesson Plan for preschoolers: (1 page) Preschoolers Activity 2:
For preschoolers, your grade is based on the quality of the activity to reach all learners and getting children to analyze and reason, create, integrate, and connect to the real world. In addition to writing a detailed lesson plan, you must describe how the activity can meet these educational goals and cite research to back up the importance of this kind of activity.
V. Analysis and discussion of how the activity you created reaches all learners and promotes analysis, creativity, and connections to the real world (citing research) (1.5 pages)
VI. Concluding paragraph (.5 page)
The paper should total a minimum of 6 pages in double-spaced 12-point font.
