Sherwood, L., Hegarty, S., Vallières, F., Hyland, P., Murphy, J., Fitzgerald, G., & Reid, T.           (2019). Identifying the key risk factors for adverse psychological outcomes among police officers: A systematic literature review. Journal of traumatic stress32(5), 688-700.

Sherwood et al. conduct a qualitative study to determine factors predisposing law enforcement officers to severe mental health problems. The reason why the study is qualitative is that the research collects textural data, which are qualitative in nature and draws meanings and information from these type of data using the five steps of qualitative data analysis: organizing data, exploring and reviewing data, information coding structure, assigning codes, and identifying repeated themes. After reading this article, I was able to understand that PTSD and anxiety are the most common risk factors for adverse psychological illness among officers, as reported in previous studies. Such information will help me have the needed background information to demonstrate the existence of mental health as a problem among police officers.

The research by Santa Maria and co-authors published in 2018 is a qualitative study because the researchers employed a qualitative data collection method in the form of an online survey to understand the experience of the police. Furthermore, the study also uses a qualitative research design to understand the perspectives and opinions of police officers regarding the demands of their jobs and the prevalence of mental health. This article will be of great importance in comprehending the relationship between job demands placed on officers and the existence of depression and anxiety. Consequently, I was able to learn that high workloads and assaults from citizens contributed to the degeneration of psychological fitness among surveyed officers.

Edwards, A. M., & Kotera, Y. (2020). Mental health in the UK police force: a qualitative investigation into the stigma with mental illness. International Journal of Mental Health       and Addiction, 1-19.

The following article is a qualitative study. This is founded on the comprehension that the research by Edwards and Kotera uses semi-structured interviews to collect qualitative data regarding the experience of the participants. Also, the collected data in the study were analyzed using thematic analysis, a qualitative data analysis method. The findings of the survey will help the researcher understand institutional negativity and stigma about mental health within the police force. Finally, after reading the article, I did learn that the police culture and attitude towards mental health may significantly contribute to their psychological health problems, and not the nature of their jobs.

Quantitative and qualitativeChallenges in Public Education will be my topic for my research paper.

My first article is more about qualitative than quantitative. ( John K. Smith (Links to an external site.) , March 1983) When an educator provides time in the classroom and the energy to do so, this is quality time.  This particular article covers points over the discussion of qualitative and quantitative research. Both tendencies tend to cause problems in any position much less education.  Teachers spend numerous hours working on papers, classwork and lesson plans on their own time.  Although this particular subject is quantitative (time spent) it is also about qualitative.  The quality of time the teacher spends in and out of the classroom comes down to the items they may also purchase, out of pocket for the classroom and their students.  In this article it states that during research, they could not decide whether quantitative or qualitative was the answer.

The article (Geiger, 2017) is qualitative study.  This article researched how their research turns out in the way of self compassion.  They discussed the anxiety a person self and depression a person has.  This goes right into education.  The anxiety a teacher has, especially this school year, is qualitative.  Geiger explained meaningful incremental validity in life satisfaction compared with neuroticism, depression, and anxiety.

The article (Johnson, 200) shows the two different methods of research, qualitative and quantitative.  They discuss the strengths as well as the differences in the two and how to research the differences.  It is more of a qualitative research article because it discusses the quality of how to design a research in education.
