Poverty and income inequality: Annotated Bibliography
In marginalized communities, getting one meal a day is something people perceive as living a stable life. The world is covered with few rich people, and the rest are people who cannot afford a luxurious life. Poverty is not a new thing to the marginalized communities as they do not have enough resources to fulfill their daily needs. Poverty and income equality is a global issue affecting communities from different societies. The world society needs to address this issue by doing more studies to determine the impacts of poverty and how it can be stopped. Income equality is also an issue affecting the global society with different countries paying their works with unique wage schemes. The intercultural communication and international economics class indicates how poverty and income inequality is a global problem. As a woman and an African American, this study is essential in bringing changes to our community. The resources discussed below will assist me in diving into what impact’s poverty, and income inequality has on economic growth. Poverty and income inequality is a global issue that could be solved by providing resources like education, skills, and job opportunities to marginalized communities.
Choi, P. (2016, May 30). Income Inequality and the Earnings Gap Between Educated and Non-Educated Workers. University of Arizona Global Campus.
https://www.uagc.edu/blog/income-inequality-and-the-earnings-gap-between-educated-and-non-educated

The article reviews the gap of income inequality in educated and non-educated workers. Gender, race, and education are the leading causes of inequality. The author notes that crime, economy, health, and living standards are some of the impacts of having income inequality in society. From the OECD analysis reviewed in the article, income equality affects the economy’s medium-term growth negatively. Chui notes that an increased number of educated workers will result in more educated workers, resulting in reducing the earning gap. It is also noted that educated workers earn more than uneducated workers. This means that they will always earn less; thus, the solution is to generate more educated workers, and the income inequality will continue to widen if some changes are not done. The author reviews different studies from the past and concludes that income inequality is an issue that needs to be addressed. The article clearly shows that income inequality affects developing countries and developed ones, making it a global issue. The study by Chui is vital in providing solutions that can reduce income inequality in the global society.
Fletcher, M. A. (2014). Income inequality hurts economic growth, researchers say (Posted 2014-01-25 03:26:15): New pa.

The blog post covers the impacts of income inequality on the economic growth of the United States. Fletcher notes that President Obama made efforts to denounce the income inequality threat that prevents people from achieving the American dream. Fletcher acknowledges that economic inequality affects not only the marginalized community but also the economy of the United States. The author also notes that income inequality has slowed down the recovery from the recession. The paper also reviews other studies done by economists who noted the stagnant income. The author studies the connection between customer debt, inequality, and household spending. The paper illustrates that only five percent of the united states consumers had stabilized in 2014 from the previous recession. Thus, this indicates how the economy is being affected by income inequality since a more considerable percentage cannot meet their basic needs. Lastly, the article leaves us to figure out how income inequality can motivate economic growth.
Creamer, J. (2020). Inequalities persist despite a decline in poverty for all primary race and Hispanic origin groups. U.S. Census Bureau, September 15.
John Creamer illustrates the inequalities that continue to affect the marginalized communities despite the declining poverty. The poverty rate of the United States in 2019 was about 11 percent which marked the lowest level since 1959. The poverty statistics covered in the article indicated that the black community and the Hispanics marked the lowest levels of 19 and 16 percent, respectively. The article indicates that the poverty rates have been high, but the adjustments show some significant progress in the marginalized communities. The most affected community is the Black Americans with the higher poverty percentage, unlike their counterparts, the Hispanics. The poverty distribution by race covered in the article shows that all generations of black communities are the most affected by inequality. The race differences show how inequality affected poverty rates in marginalized communities. The under presentation of non –Hispanic Whites and Asian communities in the poverty margin show that the united states the lowering poverty rates is working for specific communities.
Riedl, D. (2020). Financing Universal Basic Income: Eliminating Poverty and Bolstering the Middle Class While Addressing Inequality, Economic Rents, and Climate Change. Basic Income Studies, 15(2)
http://dx.doi.org/10.1515/bis-2020-0013

The paper by Riedl illustrates how the universal basic income (UBI) can serve as a solution towards mitigating poverty and inequality. The article notes that funding UBI is a challenge because the world has countries with unequal economies. The article covers a roadmap towards funding the UBI to mitigate poverty in the global society. Reidl believes that Universal Basic Income can address stigma and reduce inequality through an equality policy. The author suggests that an annual payment to everyone in the world without age cut off can be a solution to mitigating poverty. The author also reviews the limitations that could hinder the success of universal income, pointing out that it can diminish the value of labor output. The article suggests how inequality can be stopped in the global society and leaves a chance for more research to be done on implementation techniques. The author believed UBI would strengthen society and American capitalism.
Akee, R., Jones, M. R., & Porter, S. R. (2019). Race Matters: Income Shares, Income Inequality, and Income Mobility for All U.S. Races. Demography, 56(3), 999-1021.
http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s13524-019-00773-7

The article covers the income rate inequality in the United States, considering all race groups to compare income mobilities. The study shows that race groups matter in income shares and mobility. The authors collected data from income tax of the U.S. period of 2000 to 2014. The study indicates that there is a difference in mobility among racial groups in the United States. The high-income earning communities include the whites and the Asians with less mobility. The marginalized communities have a high level of immobility and higher income inequality. The study shows that the rigid distribution of income of the whites and Asians is wide and protected. The marginalized communities are disadvantaged by the income inequality, and the pattern seems to continue despite some slight progress in the increase in earnings. The study used a statistical approach to prove that whites and Asians are far better in terms of income equality than marginalized communities. The article analysis consists of measuring income immobility and based on race. Race differences are one of the contributors to income inequality and poverty.
