Choose one of the art pieces and conduct a close visual analysis to form an original argument centered on that work and what you can visually observe.
My art piece: Alessandro Vittoria, Paolo Veronese (Paolo Caliari), ca. 1580

Guidelines: 1. Your analysis should be 600–900 words (2–3 pages) double-spaced, written in 12-point Times New Roman font with 1” margins.
2. The analysis should use an objective voice (third person) and be written in an academic style.
3.This is not a research paper, and you may only read the “gallery” label on the Met website, not the catalog entries or any other information.
If you include information from the label, you must footnote as follows:
“Name of Work,” Metropolitan Museum of Art, accessed Month Day, 2020, web address.
However, if you use any other information, including any information that the museum provides on the webpage, I will expect footnotes following the Chicago Manual of Style
* structure of essay: (Must Read!!!)
-Introduction: Argument that introduces the artist, title, date, material, and dimensions of the work, as well as a brief summary of the content. Must include thesis.
Example of thesis: ‘Kehinde Wiley deploys Barack Obama’s frontal, seated pose, the cascade of light, and fantastical vegetal background to communicate the president’s approachability and invite the viewer to engage with him as both a leader and an equal. ‘
-Body: 3–5 body paragraphs with topic sentences that support your argument followed by detailed descriptions of the work that is your supporting evidence. Write as though the reader has never seen the work. It is helpful to structure your paragraphs to start with the bigger more general ideas (such as overall composition) and to progressively address more detail.
my body paragraphs:
1. Light and Shadow: Are shadows visible? Where? Are there dark shadows, light shadows, or both? How do the shadows affect the work?
2. Pose: If the work has figures, are the proportions believable? Realistic? Describe the pose(s). Is the figure active, calm, graceful, stiff, tense, or relaxed? Does the figure convey a mood?
3.Color: What type of colors are used in the work? Bright? Dull? Complimentary? Does the artist use color to draw your attention to specific areas of the work? How? If a sculpture, examine the color(s) of the medium and how it affects the work.
4.Mood: Do you sense an overall mood in the artwork? Perhaps several different moods? If so, describe them. How does the mood interpret how you view the work?
Conclusion: reiterates the argument and really draws the main ideas together to leave a lasting and convincing interpretation of the artwork with your reader.
Include an image of your object at the end of the essay with a caption.
