Alzheimers disease essay

POST A: A medical condition that is widely seen with patients is Alzheimers disease (AD). Alzheimers a form of dementia is primarily seen in patients age 65 and older (Kumar et al. 2020). In my practical experience there are families that take an active role in the care and treatment of their loved ones. They require consistent communication from the nursing staff while some who suffer from Alzheimers disease have family members who visit on fewer occasions than others without the requirement of consistent updates I build rapport with each patient by asking small details about their life that would play a significant role in my interactions with them. Some details include family rituals points of interest and fun facts that build confidence between the patient and myself. Many times I see patients who lack the family element and prefer a bit more privacy while in care. At times they are reluctant to converse outside of receiving daily treatment. . Having an understanding of the Developmental Life Cycle Stage can contribute to successful outcomes when dealing with patients. Having a significant amount of family support can result in lowered depression symptoms which is highly necessary for a patient to receive optimal healthcare (Fuller-Iglesias et al. 2015).

POST B: I work with individuals who have developmental disabilities. Most of them are diagnosed with cerebral palsy at young age. I have seen different family dynamics. D.H. parents call everyday and face time with their son. Before Covid-19 pandemic mom and dad would come almost everyday to put their son to bed at bed time. They have their routine of changing his clothes providing personal care and carry out soothing activities such as massages or listening to soft music turning on the projection night light. On the other hand G.C. receives no visitors from any family members. Occasionally he gets visited by his guardian. I have no information on his biological family. . It would be very important and helpful to know our client’s likes and dislikes. Most of our clients are non-verbal. For example I would have like to know what kinda song they prefer to listen. Clients work with therapists routinely and they have tailored activities specific for their needs. Those with family members add valuable information regarding their care and overall well being. The ones without family members are introduced to numerous activities to get a positive feedback from the client. Sometimes this process may be lengthy and it might be bothersome for the client. This can cause more agitation crying refusal of cooperation during meal times etc. During and after visitation client’s mood improves significantly. I haven’t witnessed a withdrawn client at the facility because staff does wonderful job in interacting with all of them. Clients have tendency to get pneumonia due to physical structure of their bodies and limited mobility. It is likely that clients who have family visitations often might recover quicker. When one improves well-being it might also improve recovery in physical illness (Lamers et al. 2020). Knowledge of the developmental life-cycle stage help the nurse foreseen upcoming stressors in patient’s life. Nurse thus can create care plan that addresses the needs of the patient.
