In IB math applications and analysis SL I need to write an IA. The rubric and my outline is attached to this email. Further I have also added exemplars. Same structure etc needs to be followed. The final report should be approximately 12-20 pages long with double line spacing. I would say target for 12 to 15 pages max.
My Idea: To calculate the ideal trajectory of a punch
I would have to define “Ideal” whether that be speed, power, or where the fist lands on the opponent’s jaw. This would include a little bit of physics but the teacher said it is fine because I would try to film myself doing 3 different types of punches (Jab, Right Hook, and Uppercut), with that I would try to graph the motion of my fist (calculate the function of the graph). After that, I would also need to calculate the kinetic energy or force (force means power in physics terms). But it depends on which one I am able to calculate. If I cannot find a way to calculate either two then I will need to find data online. Maybe from the world record hardest punch by MMA fighter Francis Ngannou, this would mean I would have to graph his punch instead of mine. After calculating the graphic equation and kinetic energy I would have to analyze the trend, so like “when the graph equation is ….. This is closer to more kinetic energy in a punch or this means the punch is more effective/damaging….”
