Images, concept maps, and models all serve to facilitate an observer’s ability to conceptualize and analyze. In reading Morgan’s work, you have the opportunity to view organizations through a number of “images” — from machines to organisms to fluxes to prisons to instruments. These images serve to provide a conceptual framework for understanding organizational behavior, workforce composition, job-fit needs, and management philosophies. As a doctoral thinker, you will apply these images to the concepts and perspectives on human development that you have explored.
Develop an outline for your paper on Morgan’s images (due in Week 11) in APA format. In addition to your outline, provide your instructor with explanatory text that denotes your progress in addressing the topic of the Application. In other words, where are you in terms of preparing for this paper?
This Application requires you to apply Morgan’s ” images” from your course text to an organizational setting. In particular, you will look at issues of stakeholder relations, management thought, and sustainability consciousness as discrete elements in your paper. You will prepare an outline with explanatory text this week, and submit your 12- to 15-page paper in Week 11.
Here are the core questions for you to address in developing the full paper:
· How can you see the images at work in your organization? Alternately, you may select a Fortune 100 company and research it as a basis for your discussion.
· How might your understanding of these images help you, as a manager?
· What are the consequences of these images on stakeholder relations?
· Which images would be most compatible with a stakeholder view of organizations in an environment of sustainability consciousness?
In Week 10, your outline and explanatory text will be assessed according to the following criteria:
· Captures the general ideas, as well as major controversies or limitations
· Suggests how the theories might be useful to managers
· Outline and discussion complies with APA formatting, in terms of style, tone, and content
In Week 11, you will submit your final 12- to 15-page paper, which will be assessed according to the following criteria:
· Citation of research and applications of metaphors in the literature and analysis of their utility
· Application of the metaphors at work with a discussion of some of the complexities of their functioning and implications for managers
· Delineation of metaphors as they inform various stakeholder relationships and an illustration of how those relationships might be improved with insights derived from them
· Analysis of how sustainability consciousness implies a set of values that influences organizational behavior in a way that demonstrates the appropriateness of certain metaphors instead of others
· Organization and logical flow of ideas
· Demonstration of your skill and knowledge area development necessary to move forward with doctoral-level expertise in management and organizational disciplines
· Demonstration of an imaginative interpretation based on a defensible and supported position. Exhibition of high levels of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation
· Application of new and original ideas to address the assignment with a unique approach
· Follows APA writing style and conventions, including a properly formatted abstract
