Interview A Professional in Psychology/Counseling
In 5-6 pages (APA), write reflections on a 30-minute, face-to-face interview with a full-time employee of your chosen profession, who is not a family member or an employee of CSU. **If for some reason, you would like to interview a CSU employee, please email me BEFORE stating why you chose to interview this person OR ask the CSU employee can you interview someone whom they know who may be in the career field you would like to go into.
Before conducting the interview, explain this assignment in writing, informing the interviewee that the interview will last about 30-45 minutes, and assure her/him that names and other personal information will be shared with no one other than your professor. Please let them know that you will be taking notes or if you will record the interview and please do let them know how many questions you may ask them.
Briefly write why you chose this person, then analyze the interview and describe what you learned. For example, examine what might have been unexpected or even alarming about the person, position, or organization. Explore how your perceptions of the field may have been confirmed or altered. Consider how your faith might connect with the profession.
A few sample questions to ask the person you are interviewing:
1) Why did you choose this profession/career?
2) Describe your typical workday?
3) What are some challenges that you encounter and how did you overcome them?
4) What advice would you give to a young person who is interested in this career field?
5) What would you say are the top skills needed for this career field?
6) Describe some of your job responsibilities or duties?
7) What aspect of your job do you find rewarding?
8) What are some qualifications you look for in a new hire?
Please pick 4 to 5 questions from above to ask the person you are interviewing, and you will need to PLEASE come up with 3 to 4 of your own questions. These questions are not in so please organize them***
