Assignment: Combined Spectrum Retrieval Chart
Objectives: You will explore the political, economic, and social policies and practices of two countries as they developed as rejections to liberalism.
Grade Category: Major Assignment
Assignment Instructions:
1. Research TWO of the three dominant ideologies that emerged as a result of rejecting liberalism in the early twentieth century:
communism in Russia during the Stalin era 1927 – 1953,
communism in China during the Mao Zedong era 1949 – 1976, or
fascism in Germany during the Hitler era 1933-1945.
Refer to Chapter 5: Twentieth-Century Rejections of Classical Liberalism as your primary source.
2. Complete the retrieval chart (PDF or Word) provided below to organize your research. In your retrieval chart, for your chosen ideology, provide
the following:
the nation’s historical ideological position on each spectrum: political, economic, and social spectrum
what caused the nation to adopt these ideological perspectives
what policies and practices were carried out by the nation in the direction of these ideological perspectives
what were the effects of these practices.
3. List the chapter and any additional references in a reference list using APA style. The list has been set up at the end of the retrieval chart.
4. Complete the Combined Spectrum Charts. These spectrum charts are found in a separate image file. Open the image in Paint or other graphics
software. Draw pins for the ideological positions of each chosen ideology on the chart. Use the colours provided in the legend.
