RESPONDING TO A RESEARCH RFP FOR FUNDING PURPOSES You are the leader of a health management team at a large hospital. A recent RFP circulated by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking viable research projects that will be funded by the institute. The first step for your health management team is to establish research questions that will drive studies into new areas and attract funding in the process. As the lead team member you will prepare a proposal idea in memo form as a preliminary response to the RFP. This memo will be submitted to your superiors before being further developed and presented to the NIH. The research process contains many steps and your first step will be to formulate a research study question. Normally a researcher will find a topic through personal or professional interest and direct it toward solving a problem; however the NIH has provided a list of health issues that it considers most urgent. In to prepare your proposal idea in memo form select one of the topics presented in the attached RFP. (Note: Your topic will be utilized throughout all the competencies in this area of expertise so select a topic that has an enduring interest for you.) Once you have accessed and reviewed the NIH’s RPF access the Memo Template and prepare your proposal idea that fully describes the following elements. Formulate the question ensuring that there is depth to the study question. Your approach to the health topic needs to represent a new angle not something previously addressed in literature. Explain how this new angle on your research question will approach a health-related issue. Provide a definition of any terms that may have special meaning to the study itself. (See the section Keywords in your textbook.) Reformulate your study question into a cogent problem statement. Reference any scholarly literature that is cited in your memo in APA format.
