Effects of social media on teenagers
Over decades, social media use among teenagers is increasing greatly. Technology and social media have become a part of daily lives, which has greatly increased the number of teenagers using these platforms. The daily use of these channels has minimized physical contact and conversing among people because large populations in social media communications via the social media platforms. It is essential that social media could lead to several effects on their users, of which the teenagers are victims. This essay aims to explain the effects social media cause on teenagers.
Increased social media use among teenagers can lead to depression. Most researches show that social media has significantly contributed to teen depression. According to the researchers, those that visit social media more often are more depressed than those that visit less often. The depression might be caused by these teenagers’ kind of information from social media (Kelly, 60). For instance, when they find their peers posting expensive stuff, they struggle to attain their standards, making them depressed due to the competitive nature of social media.
 The use of social media among teens can expose them to cyberbullying. They can be threatened in different ways by cybercriminals. They can even go to the extent of provoking them to commit suicide. This kind of bullying can cause more harm to the students, which even makes some commit suicide. It would not be possible for such occurrences if the teens were not exposed much to social media (Sherman, 1032).
The use of social media among teenagers can cause more harm than good. Social media overuse exposes teenagers to depression and cyberbullying.  Depression can cause mental health problems. If the teens are not much exposed to social medial such occurrences are not likely to happen.
