Instructor’s Guidance Hints and Tips

Welcome to Week One

Since you are taking this class online, you know and use technology. However, using technology
to shop online, write a Word document, or pay your bills is not the only way that technology can
be used. Technology can be used to make the life of a teacher easier. It can act as an additional
teacher within the classroom. It can help to promote independence and motivation in students.

When I first began using technology in the classroom, it consisted of showing films. This evolved
to videos. I also used overhead projectors. I finally was able to obtain a computer within the
classroom, but I used it as a gradebook and to create worksheets, tests, and quizzes. Eventually, I
obtained a few computers for student use. Teaching math, I purchased several math programs that
were used as extra practice for the students who needed the extra help. Many things have changed
since those early years, as you will learn this week.

Assignment 1 – Introduction Post (Due by the end of Day 1 – Tuesday)

One important aspect of a quality learning experience is interacting with fellow classmates. Get
to know your classmates by posting an introduction of yourself.

Some things that you should remember about this assignment include:

1. Remember this assignment is due Tuesday, Day 1.
2. View the required video.
3. Create a three-to-five slide media presentation or a two-three-minute

video.
4. Include your full name and degree or specialization.
5. Discuss your educational and professional goals.
6. Discuss the Course Learning Outcomes shared in the Syllabus.
7. Discuss the Final Project for Week 6.
8. Ensure that your introduction addresses all required components.
9. Attach or link your creation to your initial post.
10. Respond to at least three of your classmates’ introductions before the end of Week 1 on

Monday.

I will be looking for your slide presentation or video. I will also be looking for your responses to
the five bullet points for the assignment. Finally, I will be looking for your substantive responses
to at least three classmates. I look forward to reading your introductions and getting to know each
of you.

Assignment 2 – Technology Changes Everything (Due by the end of Day 7 – Monday)

The topic of your first written assignment is digital and assistive technologies for supporting
diverse learners. It will require you to read your textbook and view several videos. You will
respond to discussion prompts in a five-to-eight slide presentation. A template for the
presentation is available within the Announcement section. You may choose to use the template
or create one of your own.

Some things that you should remember about this assignment include:

1. Read and follow my suggestions posted in the “Written Assignment” Announcement,

posted during Week 1.
2. Use the Grading Rubric Checklist posted below. Include the required number of

pages and references.
3. Use the template provided within the class instructions or the one I posted in the

Announcement section. The one I provided in the Announcement section is
already formatted for APA Version 7.

4. Be sure to follow the assignment directions, view the videos, read the textbook, and
respond to the three bullet prompts.

5. Review the requirements for PowerPoint presentation. You may use the provided
templates. If not, be sure to format it correctly.

6. Be sure that you include one or more slides for each of the required topics.
7. Slides should have a consistent theme and format. Use relevant graphics and/or sounds

that enhance but doesn’t distract from the presentation.
8. Include a title slide and a reference slide, not included in total content slide count. In

addition, there should be 5-8 total slides. You should also add an introduction and
conclusion slide for continuity.

9. Support your responses with references from the textbook and the required video
resources. Feel free to add additional scholarly resources. There should be a total of
four or more resources.

10. For an APA slide presentation, headers are not required, but citations are required.
Follow the APA Guidelines and/or APA information found in the Ashford Writing
Center.

11. Complete this assignment using a PowerPoint document. Save it so that you will have a
copy of your work in the event of a technical issue when submitting your assignment.

12. Proofread your paper to ensure that your work is grammatically correct.
13. Upload it to your Waypoint dropbox.

I will be looking for your researched analysis for the three main areas of discussion. I will be
looking for the supportive evidence of this research, specifically proper citations and references.
You should use all required resources to support your information. Use of any extra resources
would also be welcome, but not required. All areas of the rubric should be covered in your
submission.

****Your presentation must be uploaded to Waypoint as a ppt or pptx file.****
Due to Waypoint conversion, please do not use black background with white/light font
color as it may not appear.

Remember to include any citations and references, if used. Also, remember to use correct
APA formatting for your references and citations.

Grading Criteria
I will be using the Grading Rubric that you will find posted within the
assignment link. The following Grading Rubric contains the same criterion
but provides you with an expanded view of the requirements for the contents of
the paper. You can use this as a checklist to ensure that you have included
everything required within your assignment.

Please see the Guidance and Additional Guidance Hints and Tips for more
information.
