Background information/purpose
This paper aims to discover how to test the qualitative and quantitative study in both experimental and non-experimental studies. This will be based on Covid 19 on the increased mental problems in the rural areas.
Hypothesis
The alternate hypothesis for this study, H1, is “COVID-19 pandemic has increased mental problems such as depression in rural America than in urban areas.” While the null hypothesis, H0, for the study is “COVID-19 pandemic has not increased mental problems such as depression in rural America than in urban areas.”
Participants
The study targets the rural residents, more so the people who have been affected by the pandemic in terms of losing their jobs through suspensions. Through the stratified random sampling method, it will be easier to select the participants while at the same time ensuring minimal bias. The participants will be chosen at random from different groups, professions, and careers. Two groups will be used in this study to help in identifying the relationship that exists between the COVID 19 pandemic in the rural areas and increased mental health issues (Mueller, et al., 2021).
Measures
Variables are critical research aspects and progress. The variables are used in signifying a research project information. “The dependent variable represents the experimental and produces the research result, while the result is the independent variable” (Alvarez, et al., 2020). The independent variable is the impact of Covid-19 on people. The variables will be measured by the number of people with mental problems due to the covid-19 pandemic. THEREFORE, the IV will be Covid 19-pandemic impact, and DV is the people who live in the rural areas in America.
Procedure
The quantitative correlational design will mean observing the relationship between the Covid 19-pandemic impact and the rural residents in America. The two groups of participants will be observed for two weeks. The behaviors of these people will be observed and documented. After observing the behavioral changes of these two groups every day, at the end of the two weeks, the difference between these two groups in terms of their behaviors will then be evaluated. The collected data will assess whether there is any difference between these two groups and the magnitude.
On the other hand, for the qualitative study, questionnaires will be used to collect data that will help assess the effect of COVID 19 on rural residents. It will start by designing questions that are easy for the respondents to answer. These questions are also supposed to be short and to the point. This will help in ensuring that the respondents will be able to offer as much information as possible (Burt, et al., 2017). In addition, conducting several interviews helps better explain, better understand, and better explore the interviewees’ opinions, behaviors, and experiences, among many other essential aspects.
Analysis of the approach
The correlational study will help identify the relationship between the Covid-19 pandemic and the increased mental health issues in rural areas. By observing these two groups and correcting the documented data, it will be easier to identify any difference between the two groups and thus reject the null hypothesis. Similarly, for the qualities study, for elaboration of these findings, the participants ought to be subjected to some questions that will help in shedding light regarding the situation. Since most of the answers will be similar for closed-ended questions, it will be easier to analyze the answers and deny the null hypothesis.
